Amarillo Arts Venues Launch July Programming With New Exhibits, Concerts

The Amarillo Symphony opens its summer series with a free outdoor performance on July 18 at the Amarillo Civic Center on Buchanan Street.

Residents have turned to indoor and evening events as daytime temperatures climb above 100 degrees along Interstate 40. The timing aligns with school break schedules and longer daylight hours that allow for after-work attendance at theaters and museums.

Venues on Polk Street and Beyond

Two blocks east, the Amarillo Museum of Art on Van Buren Street will unveil a Panhandle photography collection on July 15 that runs through September. The Globe-News Center for the Performing Arts, also downtown, hosts the Amarillo Little Theatre production of a new local play starting July 22 with tickets at the box office on 3rd Avenue. Both sites sit within walking distance of the Route 66 Historic District, where several cafes extend hours for post-event crowds.

Attendance at the museum reached 28,000 visitors during the same three-month period last year, according to its annual report released in May. Single tickets for the symphony performance cost $20 in advance or $25 at the gate, while the theater show runs $18 for general admission and $12 for students.

Visitors can purchase tickets online through each venue website or in person at the Amarillo Civic Center box office, open weekdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Parking garages on Buchanan Street offer reduced rates after 6 p.m. on performance nights.
