Amarillo War Birds Poised to Headline Arena Football Return

The Amarillo War Birds host the Sioux City Bandits at 6:30 p.m. Friday inside the Civic Center. Arena football returns to Amarillo with that matchup for the first time in nearly two years.

The gap left local fans without a professional indoor option. The War Birds arrival fills the slot at a familiar downtown venue.

Sod Poodles and Bombers Post Recent Results

The Amarillo Sod Poodles defeated the Arkansas Travelers 8-3 on July 10, 2026. Their record moved to 44-40 after the Minor League Baseball win. The Amarillo Bombers closed their regular-season home schedule Monday night with a 14-11 victory over the New Mexico Runners.

Those results arrive while high school programs ready for fall. The Amarillo High Sandies and Randall Raiders open state-tournament play Thursday at the Alamodome in San Antonio. The Lady Sandies host Caprock on Saturday in district competition. A referee shortage meanwhile affects scheduling for the upcoming high school football season.

Youth Clubs Add Depth to Local Scene

Kids, Inc. remains the largest youth sports provider. It marks more than 79 years of operation and serves over 18,000 players annually with 4,000 volunteer coaches. The group merged with TPYSF in 2025 to combine Rotary Youth Baseball, West Texas Youth Baseball and West Texas Fastpitch under one organization. It also announced plans for a $30 million multi-sport complex on 90 acres south of Loop 335 that will feature 60 acres of lighted synthetic turf fields.

Amarillo Ice Sports has expanded from 32 registered participants in 2009 to more than 1,000 youth and adult players. The Amarillo Wranglers 14U hockey team won a tournament in Odessa this season. The Iron Plains Youth Football League launched in early 2026 to give families additional options.
