Amarillo Launches Major Infrastructure Projects After Years of Planning

Amarillo is advancing multiple infrastructure projects that address road capacity, wastewater capacity and municipal facilities. Texas Department of Transportation is advancing a $312 million I-27 project to expand mainlanes to six lanes, with completion anticipated by late 2028. The $133 million State Loop 335 Phase I project is converting the road to a four-lane divided freeway, slated for completion in spring 2026.

The city is also transforming the historic 150,000-square-foot Amarillo Hardware Building into a new City Hall with $35 million in renovations funded by cash and debt. Energy and Technology Development

Fermy America is developing a $60 billion+ AI campus called HyperGrid in Amarillo that will span 5,800 acres and include 11 GW of private energy infrastructure. This project adds a large-scale private development component to the city’s infrastructure picture, centered on energy supply for the planned campus.
