How we reported this

The Commons at St. Anthony's opened in June 2026 as a 124-unit senior housing development for adults 55 and older in the North Heights neighborhood after redevelopment of the historic St. Anthony's Hospital campus.
North Heights Housing Changes
Community members in North Heights have noted the shift from the former hospital site to residential units at The Commons at St. Anthony's. The project added 124 units targeted at older adults and altered the character of the area around the original campus.
Northeast and Northwest Residential Growth
Further out, the Lariat at Presidio Ranch is under construction as a 312-unit apartment community by NE Property Management at 8976 Tarter Ave, with first units scheduled for late summer 2026. Master-planned neighborhoods such as Rock Ridge with more than 1,100 homes on the northwest side and Buffalo Highlands with 1,100 homes on the northeast side near Amazon continue to advance. A separate 1,500-home development by Lennar Homes is also underway north of Tascosa Country Club.
Southeast Street and Park Upgrades
The Barrio Neighborhood Plan supports a $6 million project for streetscape improvements on SE 10th Avenue that include new sidewalks, trees and lighting along with the addition of La Plazita Pocket Park for community events. More than two dozen projects involving restaurants, businesses, road work and renovations launched in the Amarillo area during the first quarter of 2026.
These projects continue to shape daily life for residents in the listed neighborhoods. Additional phases of construction and plan implementation are expected to proceed according to existing schedules outlined in local records.
