Amarillo Launches Major Street Repairs Across Dozens of Neighborhoods

Amarillo has launched the 2025-2026 Street Maintenance Project to resurface and preserve residential streets throughout the city, with work methods chosen according to each road’s current condition.
The effort comes as Amarillo continues routine upkeep on its street network to avoid more expensive full reconstructions later. Officials note that timely surface treatments protect the road base from water damage and can add several years to pavement life while causing far less disruption than complete rebuilding.

Work is already visible on multiple streets, with an online map updated daily to show locations slated for activity in the next 48 hours. The project covers more than 17 miles of arterial roadways under a contract valued at more than $11 million, according to the City of Amarillo’s Street Maintenance Projects page. Completion is listed for 2026.
Residents can track progress through the same map, which the engineering department updates regularly. The Simms Municipal Building at 808 S Buchanan St serves as the main contact point, with staff available weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
What residents need to know
Drivers and homeowners are asked to follow posted signs and barricades and to avoid parking on streets during scheduled work. Vehicles moved by crews will be placed nearby on a clear side street at no cost to owners. Trees that interfere with equipment may be trimmed to meet the city’s clearance standard of 14.5 feet above the roadway.
City staff emphasize that different products are selected for each block based on pavement condition, driveway layout, alley access and equipment needs. This flexible approach lets crews respond to weather, material costs and budget realities each season.
